IOSH Directing Safely

This course aims to ensure that top level decision-makers develop an appreciation of the moral, financial and legal issues relating to workplace health and safety throughout the management process.

IOSH - Directing Safely aims to ensure that health and safety is appreciated by people at the most senior executive levels. The course should enable executives to review policy and strategies, and, where necessary, introduce changes to make their organisation operate more safely.

On successful completion of the course delegates should be able to:
  • Explain the root causes of accidents
  • Understand the charges of manslaughter and corporate killing
  • Appreciate the reasons for promoting Health & Safety in the workplace
  • Explain the role of directors in Health & Safety management
  • Understand the basic principles in the Revitalising Health & Safety strategy
  • Understand the main sections of the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974, particularly relating to employers, managers, manufacturers, suppliers, designers and importers
  • Appreciate the principles of strategic management and planning
  • Understand the principles and application of safety management systems
  • Explain the concept of continual improvement with regard to health & safety
  • Understand the principles governing the use of workplace precautions, including relevant legislation, the environment and competence issues
  • Appreciate the need for health & safety training
  • Describe the role of safety professionals within the organisation
  • Understand what is meant by active monitoring
  • Identify means of active monitoring
  • Appreciate the importance of identifying key objectives
  • Recognise performance indicators
  • Understand the process of change
This qualification is to provide Senior Management with a working knowledge of Health and Safety practices.
The IOSH Directing Safely course is assessed by a short multiple choice assessment completed at the end of the course. Successful delegates are awarded an IOSH Directing Safely certificate.

Trainee Requirements:

This course is mainly for Senior Management and Diretors with a working knowledge of Health and Safety practices. 
This course is designed to enhance the knowledge of senior management and board level directors in their current understanding of health and safety. This internationally recognised training course is also ideal for companies that need to meet the ever-increasing demand for evidence of health and safety compliance.
